My family and I have lived in Whittier for over 31 years.  I have deep roots in the community and understand its needs. Supporting the community as President of the Whittier Union High School District’s board of trustees has been an honor, and I hope to continue my service.

As always, the next four years are critical to our District’s High Schools, and I will bring my energy, knowledge, and experience to ensure our students thrive in ever changing world, economy, and job & housing market.

I have seen many children excel in our public high schools and matriculate to our nation’s best colleges, and others utilize the District’s trade, business, and culinary academies to find the job or start the business of their dreams.  Opportunities are different for each child, and I want to ensure all students and families in the District have these same opportunities to excel.

  • Maintain and build on the expectation of academic excellence for all of our students. We must invest in state-of-the-art facilities and retain the best teachers. We must also invest in extra-curricular activities as those activities provide valuable experiences that shape our students’ futures.

  • Ensure that all students and families are engaged in their education and that individual students are provided the resources they need so they can reach their full potential. I will work tirelessly to ensure our students graduate to be well-rounded future responsible citizens in our society.

We must continue to make fiscal decisions with an eye to providing needed resources at all of our school sites.

  • I am proud of the fiscal decisions we have made during my tenure as they have positioned the District to weather the upcoming fiscal shortfalls that are on the horizon. I commit to continue to make decisions that are centered on students and investing in their educational success.

I will also continue to provide strict oversight for pending construction and capital improvement projects and push for investments in technology to maintain innovative teaching and programs.

  • Preserve the health and safety of students, faculty, and staff is a top priority. It is critical that our students feel safe attending school, and that faculty and staff teach in a safe environment.

We must also provide resources to promote the positive mental health of our students, faculty, and staff.

  • All decisions must be centered around the question of what is in the best interests of students.. We serve on the Board to support the students, and all decisions must keep that mission in sight.

  • As a Board member, we must conduct ourselves at the highest level of integrity. We serve as role models for or students and families and the next generation. I will continue to perform my responsibilities with the highest level of honesty, respect, and transparency.

  • The relationship between the District and our feeder K-8 districts is vital for our student’s and community success. As Board President I have pushed for greater coordination and relationships with our K-8 districts.

  • All decisions serve the mission of supporting the students, but those decisions must also be supported by data, research, and financial efficacy. As a Board member, I have asked many questions about the District’s programs, and requested data to better understand how our students are performing and how to best improve the educational services we provide.

  • Over the last five years, the District’s student enrollment has dropped by almost 25%. This is a trend in our elementary school districts and throughout the state. This declining enrollment impacts the District’s financial condition and the resources we can provide to our students. Over the last three years, I have advocated for updated programming and support of students so that we can mitigate this trend. We cannot eliminate declining enrollment, which is caused by lower birth rates or lack of affordability for young family housing, but the District can take further actions to support public education. As a Board member, I will continue to plan for this declining enrollment so that its impact is responsibly managed.

  • Our immigrant students and families are deserving of constitutional rights, respect, and dignity. As a Board member I am committed to providing all of our students with safe access to schooling.

  • Technology is constantly evolving and our digital systems are rapidly changing the way we work, create, and learn. We need to prepare our staff and students to continue to be critical thinkers and to adapt to an AI normalized and online future.
